Position Description

Position: Telecommunications Technician

Type of employment: Full-Time, Permanent   

No of positions: 1

Anticipated Start date: As soon as possible.

Work Location: 23-6782 Veyaness Rd, Saanichton, BC V8M 2C2 and various locations in Vancouver Island.                                                                                                                                             

 

Salary and Benefits           

Salary: $37.10 per hour

Job Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, and repair aerial and underground telephone, coaxial, and fibre optic lines, cables, and related hardware across rooftops, towers, monopoles, and in-building systems.
  • Splice, terminate, and repair fibre optic, coaxial, and copper cables, ensuring every connection meets company, client, and safety standards.
  • Troubleshoot and replace faulty cables, connectors, amplifiers, power supplies, and other transmission and distribution equipment.
  • Test and analyze systems using specialized tools (e.g., sweep and PIM testers, OTDR, azimuth reporting), record results, and adjust where required.
  • Work safely at heights on poles, towers, rooftops, and ladders, and in confined spaces such as trenches, tunnels, and crawl spaces, following certified fall protection and rescue procedures.
  • Collaborate with teammates and other trades to coordinate installations, upgrades, and service restoration efficiently.
  • Assist with tower and pole projects, including erection, reinforcement, inspection, and removal of structures.
  • Operate and maintain equipment and machinery, including excavation tools, bucket trucks, lifts, and other specialized gear.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, work orders, and technical manuals to carry out installations and repairs accurately.
  • Complete job documentation and reports, including test results, work performed, and materials used, using company systems.
  • Respond to service calls and perform emergency repairs to restore service in a timely manner.
  • Follow all safety protocols and regulatory requirements, making safety a priority in every task.

 

Education, Experience and Skills required

  • Relevant education OR at least 3 years of related work experience.
  • Physical ability to perform demanding tasks, including working at heights, lifting equipment, and adapting to varying outdoor weather conditions.
  • Strong manual dexterity, hand eye coordination, and proficiency with tools and specialized equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical manuals, and work orders, and to perform precise measurements.
  • Skilled in troubleshooting, diagnosing, and documenting repairs or installations with accuracy.
  • Safety-first mindset with proven knowledge of fall protection, tower safety, and regulatory compliance.
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to multiple job sites as required.
  • Ability to respond to service calls and perform emergency repairs in a timely manner.
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative team-oriented approach.
  • Professional attitude, problem-solving ability, and commitment to delivering high-quality service.
